Happening: Progress!

By The Megapope   Posted at  00:43   Ultramarines No comments

Deck the halls with boughs of skulls, for I have finished not one, but two miniatures and made very good headway on a third.

So Apothecary Venatio and Devastator Sergeant Strabo are all finished, sealed and based up and I got onto finishing off the Company Champion, who according to Ye Olde Space Marines Codex goes by the name of Gaius Prabian. Hey there, Prabian!

So here's the good doc. He'll cure what ails you and then extract your progenitor glands and put a merciful bolt round through your skull once you're no longer any use. Because he cares.

Meanwhile, Sergeant Strabo is angry because he has a stupid sounding name. Luckily he's in command of a bunch of psychopathic supersoliders armed with laser canons and missile launchers so he gets to express himself.

Note: I can actually spell "JUSTICE", the writing on his shield is a space-latin transfer from the Space Marine Vehicle Transfer sheet. The sentence is Justus Mors but I could only fit the first bit on the shield.

Honoured Brother Gaius Prabian has a sword and he's not afraid to use it. Him and the devastator sergeant are probably my two favourite models that I've painted so far, I think mainly because there's a lot of interesting things going on and they really stand out from the rank and file blue armoured plated giants.

Slowly, Slowly

By The Megapope   Posted at  00:10   Ultramarines No comments
So I got me some superglue and bam: fixed devastator sarge. And doesn't he look snazzy with the script decals on his loin-clothy thing?

I'll have him and the apothecary finished very soon and then it's deciding what to get onto next. I quite like the idea of having the command squad totally finished now, so I may well get the Company Champion sorted before doing some more bikes.

Docs and Decals

By The Megapope   Posted at  17:43   Ultramarines No comments
I did some more stuff! Namely put decals on Currently Held Together By Bluetack Sergeant Atavian! Really this photo is just another excuse to show off a couple of the excellent range of Ultramarine decals by Forgeworld.

That fall really wasn't kind to Atavian. I'm gonna have to fix up the signum (floaty skull sensory thing perching on his shoulder) which got a bit bent up.

But wait! There's more! I remembered that my command squad on display is still missing Apothecary Venatio and Honoured Brother Gaius Prabian the Company Champion. Well, I thought to myself, here is a gross injustice that must be remedied forthwith. So here is mostly finished Venatio, who has languished in the depths of a model carry-case for the last X months. Poor fella.

Clean Break

Dammit gravity, why you gotta do this to me?

Previously glued together Sergeant Atavian has just fallen to pieces after a short drop from the table to the carpet. I guess that's what happens when you're bluetacked onto a heavy-ish pill container filled with beads.

And here's me without any glue until Monday.

Still, you can see how he's progressing, which is something. Maybe I'll do his shoulder decals in the meantime...

Bike progress

By The Megapope   Posted at  18:21   Ultramarines No comments
Bike Sergeant is finished, just need to get some more glue to facilitate shoving moss and rocks all over his base.

I guess the squads are named after the sergeants in the codex? In which case his name is Sergeant Strabo which is a bit unfortunate but there you go. Post-human gengineered warrior-monks can't be choosers.

Not the best pics but his helmet actually came out really good. I'll have to take another one later in better lighting. Glad that I can still paint helmet lenses, which are tricky beasts. His came out well though, which you can just take my word on for now. It's cool though, I wouldn't lie to you.

Aaaaaaand I just realised the decal I used for his shoulder pad is the one meant for the company Command Squad. I, uh, guess he's one of the backups they call in when someone's out with the flu or something. Maybe I'll redo it at some point.

I quite like all the extra bits one can put all over the bikes. Satchels! Parchment papers! Purity seals! Knives! No self respecting Astartes would ride his bike into battle without being fully laden with more pouches than a Rob Liefield illustration.

Next up: more bikes! Or the Devastator sergeant. Whichever catches my fancy.

Who is this beardy weirdo?

My photo
Hatching from his egg high in the glacier crowned majesty of the Himalayas, the Megapope quickly devoured his other siblings and later on his parents, for being damned cheeky. He ran a bloody campaign of terror across the wind swept steppes of the north, coming to be known as 'That Horrid Bastard' by the terrified tribes of the region. Many years later he came second in a beauty contest, won $10, didn't pass Go and didn't collect $200.
