Commanding View

By The Megapope   Posted at  21:10   Ultramarines No comments
Oh look at that, a finished Company Champion. This means that the Second Company Command Squad™ are totally done and dusted. Hurrah!

Pretty happy with the end result of good old honoured brother Gaius. Once again the Forgeworld transfers help boost the final look, I really love how the repeating ultramarine symbol works wrapped around his shoulder pauldrons.

Just look at that command squad in all their blue/gold glory. Nothing says 'we are the generic noble poster boys' like the Ultramarines colour scheme and I love it.

Next up: whatever takes my fancy.

Khador Progress Report

By The Megapope   Posted at  23:23   painting 5 comments

So this evening I got Sorscha finished up. Hurrah! Perfect way to deal with feeling poos and coughing a lot.. sit in a warm lounge and paint. One warcaster down, 4 to go!

Also a bunch of other things that I will now regale you with IN SEXY PICTURE FORM.

Spell casters, letting you dodge painting eyeballs since ages ago.
So I managed to take a bunch of not very good photos of my freshly painted warcaster, and the above one is the best you're gonna get. The main thing I wanted to show was her GLOWING BLUE EYES OF POWER™ that are basically just two dabs of Ice Blue because I glued her arm on before painting her face, and those eyeballs are hard to get to.

If I was more confident I'd try out an actual glow effect around her eyes, but I'm not in that league yet.

However!

Now 100% less squinty
Just look at that grizzled beardy face. And two eyes! Neither messed up! Amazing what a good quality fine brush can do. Also I'm getting better at painting with a steady hand methinks. I am so pleased with these eyeballs that I'm tagging this blog entry under 'achievements'. Oh yeah that's right.

This leads us into a group shot...

"Your arc node just exploded? Nope, wasn't us..."
I'm leaving them as is for a while since I haven't quite decided exactly what level of highlight I want to bring them up to. As I said in ze last entry, I like the darkened look of them, but I do feel like they need a bit of touching up before I can send them off to blow the brains out of the ungodly.

But wait! There's more!

"This isn't my first choice of profession. I wanted to be a ballerina."
The Destroyer is base coated and all inked up. Next will be the green blending on all the flat surfaces plus a few line highlights here and there.

And finally, good folks of the intertubes, I leave you with... THE HOUND.

Unkown to Sorscha, he's having a love affair with the Juggernaut's left leg.
Finally got round to gluing it onto the base. Look at the bloody size of that thing! Sorscha could comfortably ride that mutt into battle without even bothering to hold her feet off the ground. I went for a less extreme pose than the default 'just landed and have both back legs in the air' which I wasn't a huge fan of. Looking forward to painting him up, in fact I might do him next.

MEGAPOPE OUT.

Achievement Unlocked: First Assault Guys Finished

By The Megapope   Posted at  19:47   Ultramarines 5 comments
They're angry, and they assault all of the things, all of the time.

They're (half of) Squad VII of Second Company, Ixion. Also known as "Macraggae's Avengers".

From the fluff we're told that these guys take a massive joygasm in smiting tyranids and have carried out assaults on all of the hive fleets ever. With that in mind I'd like to eventually get hold of a few tyranid bits to decorate them with, and maybe also add some scars and battle damage around their armour.

As it stands they're table top ready but I'll muck about with them here and there over the next while to tidy them up some more.

I think challenges that I want to set myself painting wise at the moment are working on getting my highlights thinner and tidier, and experimenting with shadows some more.

Achievement Unlocked: Tactical Squad Finished

By The Megapope   Posted at  15:36   Ultramarines 2 comments
Squad II of Second Company is complete! I renamed them to the Codex name of Manorian!

See them! In rows! Such rows they are in. Sergeant Praxor Manorian is rocking the stripy sword ensemble.

Some shoulder detail! I cut up one of the Forgeworld decals since my freehand skills are... yeah. I don't have any.

Squad Manorian and the dreadnought Ultracius. The crusty old Ultracius once led Squad II so he likes to keep an eye on them. They swap recipes, talk about girls, crush the enemies of the imperium under their booted heels. That kinda thing.

Achievement Unlocked: First Combat Squad Finished

By The Megapope   Posted at  11:52   Ultramarines 2 comments
I present to you, half of Vorolanus "The Thunderbolts" (I'm using the squad names given in the Space Marines Codex), Squad II, Second Company of the Ultramarines.

Brother Gaius. He'd be my squad leader if such ranks still existed.

Next up: getting the rest of the tactical squad completed. Plus today I'm going to be working on a fun missile launcher conversion.

Who is this beardy weirdo?

My photo
Hatching from his egg high in the glacier crowned majesty of the Himalayas, the Megapope quickly devoured his other siblings and later on his parents, for being damned cheeky. He ran a bloody campaign of terror across the wind swept steppes of the north, coming to be known as 'That Horrid Bastard' by the terrified tribes of the region. Many years later he came second in a beauty contest, won $10, didn't pass Go and didn't collect $200.
